The 6 Best Pop Songs About Girls Getting Sh*t Done
Whether school’s out for the summer, or you’re still toiling away at work for like, the rest of your life, the good news is that your favorite female pop stars can relate to your struggle.
The Huffington Post just came out with an awesome article titled, “Why Lady Pop Stars Have No Time For Slacker Anthems,” which details all the musical ways stars like Beyonce, Rihanna, and Fifth Harmony celebrate their evidently insane work ethic. Women are still earning 79 cents to a man’s dollar, it’s worth taking a moment to celebrate all that you do for your own hustle. See our 6 favorite work anthems below.
1. “Work Bitch” – Britney Spears
Because no Britney Spears song can suck, and because the phrase “Work, bitch,” is just too good.
2. “Independent Woman” – Destiny’s Child
Beyonce has like, a million songs that could fit the bill (ha ha) for this purpose, but in celebration of sisterhood, we’re choosing the OG anthem “Independent Woman.”
3. “Pictures of Success” – Rilo Kiley
Here, Jenny Lewis sings about her vision of being a modern woman, and executes the idea that it’s sometimes it feels hard for that to feel all it’s cracked up to be.
4. “Monster” – Kanye West, Jay Z, Rick Ross, and Nicki Minaj
First of all, Nicki outraps literally every single one of the “best rappers alive,” on this song (Kanye even admitted to considering taking out of the song because it was too amazing), but Nicki’s admission of her own success — “50k for a verse/no album out” — is legit inspiring.
5. “Work It” – Missy Elliot
I’m actually not exactly sure what this song is about, but there’s no harm in repeating the words, work it,” over and over and over again.
6. “Nine to Five” – Dolly Parton
This is a throwback song with an awesome video, and Dolly Parton is also just awesome. Her god daughter, Miley Cyrus, agrees.
