Zoe Belle Elyse On What It’s Really Like To Be A Working Model
After working with labels such as All Saints and Valfre, model Zoe Belle Elyse is using her confidence in front of the camera and her raw edged hustler mentality behind the camera in hopes of reforming the modeling industry. The modeling world is becoming a more inclusive place every day. Healthy bodies are now “in style” and gender identity is embraced, rather than gawked at. But Zoe knows that models still face obstacles: age, body type, working conditions, race, and social media following all determine a model’s ability to get work. She envisions a world where models book jobs on merit, rather than the myriad of factors that the industry values, which don’t really impact a model’s ability to perform. Every day, Zoe’s coming one step closer to making that dream a reality. Check out what Zoe has to say below.
What is your biggest mission in the modeling world? What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progress in this industry?
My biggest mission in the industry is to prove that height isn’t the biggest factor when it comes to a model’s ability to perform. I want to be working everyday and want to book big jobs that only supermodels seem to be booking. It used to be you’d work hard and make a name for yourself, and now it’s like you have to have a name for yourself to be working, which just sucks. I want to show that you can still work hard and get to that level.
When were you the most satisfied with your life?
Probably as a child. I think there’s always room for improvement in my life (not to say my life isn’t great where it is now) but I do believe that there are so many highs and lows. Ultimately, I’m satisfied with every moment of my life because I’m constantly growing.
Tell us about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career.
I think the most significant to date is a project that will be released in Spring so I can’t spill the beans yet! Besides that, working with All Saints was such a dream of mine and I got to do it!
Which fashion magazines, websites and blogs do you visit most often?
I’m always on Pinterest and I’ve read Nylon religiously for years. I get a lot of fashion inspiration from the world around me.
Who or what is your biggest motivator?
My mom definitely is my biggest motivator, she always thinks I can be doing more even when I don’t think I can. Also, my goals motivate me to show people I can achieve them.
Give us five facts that the world does not know about you.
1. I can fit my whole fist in my mouth.
2. I think poop talk is hilarious (I’m a five year old secretly).
3. I own more than 60 pairs of shoes.
4. I’m centimeters away from being able to lick my elbow.
5. I’m a cat person. I love dogs, but cats are the freakin’ cutest.
