Women In Fashion: Ruthie Davis, Shoe Designer
Since 2006, Ruthie Davis has made show-stopping shoes. Her shoes have graced all our favorites, from pop icons like Beyonce, to supermodels like Naomi Campbell. Her collections evoke a sense of femininity and power like no other!
What piece of yours can’t you live without?
I absolutely cannot live without my Ruthie Davis Fall 2013 “Halle” Shooties (NeimanMarcus.com). It’s one of my very favorite shoes that I’ve ever designed. It’s completely versatile and really flatters the foot. It looks amazing with jeans, short, skirts… everything really. It’s avant garde, yet totally wearable and fun.
Who are your fashion influencers?
I live and work in West Chelsea, New York City’s Gallery District, so I’m always inspired by the gallery and PR girls I see walking on the streets here. But, my go-to fashion muses have always been girls with a timeless cool like Lauren Hutton, Kate Moss and Farrah Fawcett. As far as design goes, I love the futuristic glamour of Courreges, the clean lines and dark edge of Saint Laurent, and the sizzling sex and color of Gucci, among many others.
What type of women do you see wearing your shoes?
My brand is for women who like to feel good about themselves and celebrate it with fashion. They are youthful, daring, sexy, sporty, and outgoing. They are influenced by fashion, but prefer to set their own trends. When they walk into a room, they own it.
Who’s your favorite woman in fashion?
I really love Phoebe Philo’s work, both at Celine and Chloe. I’m always inspired and impressed by her ability to create innovative, linear, and architectural designs.
