Wolf Alice Is The Summer Concert You Can’t Miss
Wolf Alice, the four-piece rock act from North London has been blowing up recently. They performed at SXSW and are about to kick off a Summer tour around the U.S this month. The band produces self-described “rocky pop”—their songs will impress your music snob friends, but still fun for your girlfriends who only like top 40 songs. We got lucky this week, when lead singer, Ellie Rowsell, took some time to updated us on the band’s tour habits, favorite albums, and the positive effects that a little glitter can have.
I’ve heard that Ellie’s dream is to tour with Kings of Leon. Who else are you guys dying to tour with?
I think they’d be a great band to tour with because you could learn a lot from them, as a guitar band who play huge stadiums and arenas all over the world. Plus I used to be a huge fan, I like every single song on the first 3 albums. I’d also like to tour with Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, and Miley Cyrus.
Do you guys have any personal items you need on tour with you? Maybe old stuffed animals, certain kinds of foods…
We really aren’t divas at all, as long as I have clean underwear, a tooth brush, some shampoo, and a great book, I feel marvelous.
How do you guys find out about music that you like?
When we go to gigs we always watch the supports, that’s a good way. Magazines like fake DIY or the NME etc, and festivals are a good way of stumbling upon bands, if you’re lucky enough to be at one.
Do you guys have a collective favorite album? Maybe “Rumours” by Fleetwood Mac?
Rumours is the most incredible album, banger after banger! We love White Pony by Deftones, Smoke Ring For My Halo by Kurt Vile, Songs For The Deaf by Queens of Stone Age. Or any Queens of Stone Age albums, to be fair.
How do you guys decide what you’ll wear on stage?
Sometimes if we are in the right mood we’ll coordinate outfits, but normally we just do our own thing. We are all quite different.
Who would you rather be, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones?
I’d rather be the Beatles cause they really were incredible songwriters. But then the Rolling Stones looked so cool and their music would be fun to play, so I don’t know. I’d be some kind of a hybrid.
What’s one band you wouldn’t want to see in concert?
I think I’d give anything that wasn’t offensive or too violent a go.
Ellie, what beauty tips can you offer?
If you feel fabulous then you look fabulous! And a little bit of glitter can help mark a fab occasion!
You can only hear one song for the rest of your life. “Bohemian Rhapsody” or “Ring of Fire”?
“Ring of Fire”. I think both are incredible songs, but reckon Bohemian Rhapsody might do my nut in after a while.
