Yoga, Starbucks, Sushi And Parking Tickets Will Influence LA Fashion Week

Los Angeles Fashion Week starts today at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, and designers from all over the world are showing. We asked a few designers to send us a piece from the new collection for an exclusive sneak peek! And because it’s L.A., we photographed the collection with the model interacting with typical L.A. things—yoga mat, Starbucks, sushi, parking tickets—and gave the overall feel a Melrose-punk vibe, topped off with interviews from each designer about their new collections. See below.

Describe your new collection in one sentence: 

Barbara í Gongini: Sustainable avant-garde design, rich in tactility, multi-functional end-user elements displayed in a monochromatic color palette.

If you could imagine a scene where the Galore girl was wearing your new pieces, what would it be like?

BIG: The Galore girl – women – is subtle and poetic in her presence, mysterious in the most intellectual form, yet her presentation is voluminous and she carries an attire rich in layered effects. She would be featured in a theatrical scene, gazing over the horizon, of the cinematic Islands in the Northern Atlantic, the late summer breeze would whisper change of direction, and she contemplates her existence in this universe, as a warrior of pure love and freedom of self.

Emma Mulholland: The girls you teased in school that you realized later were always cooler than you.

If you could imagine a scene (like in a movie!) where the Galore girl was wearing your new pieces, what would it be like?

EM: Stopping at a bowling alley in a small town on a road trip.

Describe your new collection in one sentence: 

Cosmogyral: This resort collection is called Diaphanous —light, delicate, and translucent—and it is inspired by my Filipino roots, the sensuality of lingerie, and the organics of nature.

If you could imagine a scene (like in a movie!) where the Galore girl was wearing your new pieces, what would it be like?

Cosmogyral: The Galore girl will be wearing these garments while on vacations in the Bahamas, Maldives, or any lavish resort destination.

Describe your new collection in one sentence: 

Namilia: The collection “My Pussy My Choice” is a celebration of a rebellious and youthful take on feminism and how contemporary pop icons such as Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus use Instagram to change our perception of femininity.
If you could imagine a scene (like in a movie!) where the Galore girl was wearing your new pieces, what would it be like?

Namilia: We would definitely see the Galore Girl wearing Namilia in a really aggressive scene in a Movie like Bling Ring or Spring Breakers.

Yohei Ohno: A challenge to seek a new relationship between function and beauty.

If you could imagine a scene where the Galore girl was wearing your new pieces, what would it be like?

AM: A scene from Akira Kurosawa “dreams” film. Where military and fantasy lucid worlds blend.

Describe your new collection in one sentence: 

Polina Zeynalian: Delicate knits protected by strong architectural pieces, Polina’s collection expresses the inner softness of human mind and ways of shielding them through her silhouettes and print.
If you could imagine a scene where the Galore girl was wearing your new pieces, what would it be like?

PZ: My collection can be seen in high-rise strong-architectural cities, where the young and hard working contemporaries use masculine clothing to subconsciously shield their softness inside, translating into “we’ve got what it takes.”

If you could describe your collection in one sentence what would it be?

The collection “Snow Queens” is a seamless combination of uniquely developed textures and treatments, designed for an assertive and successful woman representing the elite.

If you could imagine a scene (like in a movie!) where do you picture the Galore girl wearing your designs?

I would imagine the Galore girl wearing Araksi Balyan designs playing Miranda Priestly in “The Devil Wears Prada” in the scene where she casually steps out of the car while everyone else in the building is freaking out because she is almost there. My ultimate desire is to make my client feel special, one of a kind, powerful and authoritative because she is wearing one of a kind designs.
