Why Violet Chachki Is The Baddest Bitch To Ever Win RuPaul’s Drag Race

She may be a 22-year-old girl with an 18-inch-waist, but Violet Chachki has just been crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar beating out veteran funny girl Ginger Minj and the stoner chick from next door, Pearl.

While some said she was too young, some said she was too inexperienced, and others said she was too much of a bitch, from day one, Violet Chachki hasn’t given a f-ck what the haters had to say. Why? Because bitch is confident.

Whether she’s serving up dominatrix realness or bearded 50s housewife extravaganza, Violet always keeps it 100. Why? The short answer is because she’s a fashion queen who makes all of her costumes and accessories herself, but the long answer is because she spends a lot of time in her room scrolling through Tumblr and paging through fashion magazines. Maybe that’s why she thinks that “in this day and age there is really no excuse not to be polished.” Talk about a flawless queen.

When asked why she deserved to be in the top three of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Violet said, “I believe I represent the past, the present, and the future of drag.”
By refusing to adhere to “the traditional drag playbook” which calls for camp, camp and more camp, Violet Chachki’s dedication to glamour stands out. “It’s not just about wanting to ‘look’ glamorous but about wanting to feel glamorous,” Violet told Confessions Of A Toy Boy.  And you have to give it to the girl – even when she’s posing naked with nothing but a crown on her head, even Adore Delano couldn’t strip the polish off this girl.

And yet, it’s another quality of Violet’s that’s won her the most fans: the fact that she’s shadier than an open umbrella on a beach.

In an interview with Creative Nuova, when asked why she first got into drag, Violet said, “I knew I could look better as a girl than most girls could.  Girls, for the most part can’t wear heels and corsets without complaining. I wear pain eloquently without the complaints.”

Unsurprisingly, Violet was the winner of the much coveted ‘Shadiest Queen Award’ on the show.  But even though Violet may play a bitch on TV, it all stems from an unshakable confidence in herself – something most of us could probably do with more of ourselves.

Rather than shy away from her attitude, Violet embraces it.  “My character is very polarizing.  People either really love me or really hate me, two very extreme sides of the spectrum.  And I like it that way.”

And speaking of being a bad bitch, Violet’s life pre-Drag Race is packed with scandal and titillating incidents.

Not only has Violet stared in a solo porn video, but in 2013, two photographs of Violet featured in Atlanta’s Legendary Children photo exhibition caused such an outrage, the gallery was forced to censor them.  The first was a photograph by Blake England showcasing the drag queen’s untucked family jewels, and the second featured Violet standing in front of a cum-spewing mouth.

Not that Violet’s sorry about any of it, of course.  In a statement the drag queen gave for Logo Violet said, “I don’t think I’ve ever done anything I’m ashamed of. I believe in being body positive and sex positive.”

Can we get an Amen?

So what does the future hold in store for America’s Next Drag Superstar?

An album, of course.  Even though Violet admits that she’s “not really a singer,” nothing can stop this queen in her quest for independence.  Why should she have to settle to using somebody else’s art to serve her own?  Check out her first single “Bettie” now and get ready to go gaga over this fetish queen.
