Tune Playlist: DJ Brooklyn Dawn Talks Pre-Holiday Jams And New Album!
We caught up with our girl DJ Brooklyn Dawn to chat about her new album and some of her favorite jams to gear up for the holiday travels as part of our Absolut Tune series! Check out the DJ’s interview and playlist below!
How did you get into the DJ game?
I tried dj’n my senior year of college in Boston and fell in love with it. Head over heels.
Moved to NYC when I graduated to pursue dj’n full time and haven’t stopped working at
it since. Passion.
Who are [some of] your favorite female musicians?
How did you come up with your DJ name?
The promoter that gave me my first dj gig in college gave it to me. The “dawn” part is a
play on words. They called me the “don” because I was out every night, wrangling my
friends to come hear this DJ or check that party, but always with this laid back vibe.
Favorite cocktail when DJing?
Absolut Tune Chilled in a flute at 40°F
Who’s your favorite artist and why?
I can’t pick just one favorite when it comes to music. I love J Dilla, Junior Kimbrough,
Diplo, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Mark Ronson, Rza, all of Wu-tang really—you see
why this favorite concept is impossible..
What do you have coming up in 2014?
My album. Half instrumentals. Half original songs that feature some of my super talented
friends. And hopefully touring. And definitely more production work for film and
