#TBT: Three 6 Mafia Gave the Best Oscar Performance of All Time in 2006

For most people, the 2006 Oscars went down in history as the year “Brokeback Mountain” got robbed for best picture and glorified after-school special “Crash” won instead.

But the real story of the night was the lit performance — and subsequent acceptance speech — that Three 6 Mafia gave. It was basically the most exciting musical performance ever to grace the Oscars stage, and if the upcoming ceremony this Sunday is even half as entertaining, we’ll be thrilled.

In 2006, Three 6 Mafia’s “Hard Out Here For a Pimp” was nominated for Best Original Song after it featured on the “Hustle & Flow” soundtrack. The group performed the song and livened up the snoozefest that was the ’06 Oscars.

Later on, they won — and after their lively acceptance speech, host Jon Stewart asked, “How come they’re the most excited people here tonight? That’s how you accept an Oscar.”
