This Recipe Will Rev Up Your Sex Life
It’s that time again, friends. Time for me to put more fabled aphrodisiacs to the test by cooking up some delicious meal featuring ingredients that are supposed to make you horny. This week I’m making a dish that is packed full of sexy foods…I’m making ceviche. If there was a “power breakfast” of sex foods, ceviche would be it. It’s main ingredients include seafood of some kind, which is for some reason is ranked high on the foods that will make you horny list, and on top of that, it even includes the aphrodisiacs I tested two weeks ago for our first installment…garlic and jalapeno peppers. But enough about last week, let’s get down to this week’s aphrodisiac…
This Week’s Aphrodisiac: Sea Scallops
Scallops’ connections to sex and all that is amorous go way back to Ancient Greece, where myth has it, Aphrodite (also known as Venus), the goddess of love, arrived on shore by way of a scallop shell. Peak your girl Aphrodite out in the well known painting, The Birth of Venus coasting to shore on a giant scallop shell below.
“Recently, a study by the American Chemical Society found that eating scallops and other bivalve sea creatures may raise your level of sex hormones.”
Recently, a study by the American Chemical Society found that eating scallops and other bivalve sea creatures may raise your level of sex hormones. But not so fast, just because you see the word “Sex” in those findings doesn’t necessary mean that the sex hormones are going to increase your sex drive. Sex hormones include both estrogen and testosterone, and scientists are still trying to sort out which of those, or in what specific combination ratio those hormones contribute to increase in libido. Although it is speculated that testosterone is linked to sex drive, it’s not certain. So…looks like there is a lot that’s up in the air with regard to scallops and whether they are going to make us horny. Well then, all the more reason to continue on my valiant effort to test their effects.
Ingredients & Recipe: Scallop Ceviche
1/2 lb of scallops
2 lemons juiced
2 limes juiced
a pinch of sea salt
1/3 clove of garlic, chopped and diced
2 jalapeno pepper, chopped and diced
1 bushel of cilantro, chopped and diced
1/3 small red onion, sliced thinly
1 red pepper, sliced thinly
1 green pepper, sliced thinly
Marinate the scallops in the lemon and lime juice with garlic, salt, and cilantro for about 4-5 hours or until the scallops are cooked through. You can check this by cutting a scallop in half, if it is still translucent in the middle it needs to be marinated longer. After scallops have cooked through, add the chopped and sliced jalapeno peppers, red and green peppers, and red onions. Mix together, then serve with a garnish of mint.
Okay it’s my job to be real with you all, so let’s be real. These scallops had your girl OUT HERE. Mostly because they were delicious. But also, scallops really are sexy. They have a soft, fleshy texture that is, dare I say it, sensual to experience when you slip them into your mouth. After the scallops marinate in the lemon and lime juice, they are the perfect texture– tender enough to fall apart in your mouth, but by no means mushy.
“I’ll have to divulge that my boyfriend cooked this for me–he’s a sushi chef–and that alone had me turned on. Because, what is sexier than being cooked for? Literally nothing. Maybe that’s why men are so into women cooking for them.”
And while I’m being real, I’ll have to divulge that my boyfriend cooked this for me–he’s a sushi chef–and that alone had me turned on. Because, what is sexier than being cooked for? Literally nothing. Maybe that’s why men are so into women cooking for them. All I know is I didn’t have to lift a finger to experience this deliciousness, and after I was done eating it, I was definitely ready to do. the. damn. thing. So I’m going to say all in all this was a success– then again, maybe it was less about the sex power of the scallops and whatever hormone voodoo magic they supposedly have and more about being pampered…
