Things Didn’t Go Well When This Celebrity Asked Beyonce What Her Name Was
Fact: We all love Beyoncé
Fact: We all want to meet Beyoncé
Fiction: We could all be chill AF when we meet Beyoncé
Back when I used to live in an apartment that was affectionally nicknamed ‘Nellyville‘, the topic of meeting celebrities was constantly on the table. Which celebrities would fit in smoking a spliff on the couch in front of a giant Drake poster and a One Direction calendar, which celebrities would be too much of a bitch to talk to, and which celebrities we wouldn’t even be able to pull it together for. Naturally, Beyoncé was one of those celebrities.
Like, what would you even say to the queen of everything? How could you look perfection in the eye and think you had something to offer her? If you managed to say anything at all, chances are it would be super embarrassing for you.
And that’s exactly what happened to UFC champ Holly Holm (aka the chick who knocked out Rounda Rousey) who said the one thing you should never, ever say to Beyoncé when she was invited to a VIP viewing party for a boxing match hosted by Jay-Z.
“I meet Jay Z and he says, ‘This is my life,‘ and I’m like, ‘Oh, hi, what’s your name? Because that’s what I do when I meet someone’s wife,” Holly explained in an interview to KRQE in Albuquerque. “And as I’m shaking her hand, I’m thinking, ‘Why did I just say that? Why did I just say that to Beyoncé?”
Even though Jay Z tried to brush that awkward interaction and talk to Holm about the fact that she knocked out the knockout queen, Holm literally couldn’t even.
“I can’t even focus on what he’s saying because I just put my foot in my mouth. I literally have to interrupt him. I’m like, ‘I’m really sorry,‘ and I go back to Beyoncé and I’m like, ‘I can’t believe I just did that.‘ She goes, ‘Oh no, it’s fine.‘ I’m like, ‘No, I really, really…it’s such an honor to meet you.”
The struggle is real, y’all.
