There’s Yet Another Domestic Violence Scandal Brewing in the NFL

Dante Fowler is yet another professional football tied to a (very odd) domestic violence scandal. He’s been caught on camera refereeing a fight between the mother of his child and his current girlfriend at his apartment building in Florida.

Fowler made waves for his career as a college football player University of Florida and then was the third pick draft for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He tore ACL on the first day of training camp, forcing him to sit out for the season. This scandal will ostensibly serve as an introduction to his fans.

TMZ released the video, which shows both women preparing to fight, a man who is reported to be Fowler standing around, and then signaling to them to start. He eventually does pull one of the women away after a few minutes of their fighting.

Later on, he issued an apology statement regarding the video, stating: “I am embarrassed and have apologized for my actions to everyone involved…as a family, we have been dealing with this moment and the conflict that led to it since this occurred. The video surfacing is a sad reminder that emotions got the best of all of us. I take 100 percent responsibility for everything that happened.”

The Jacksonville Jaguars also released a statement, saying, “Dante brought the incident to our attention prior to the video being released and was embarrassed and remorseful…violence of this type against others is unacceptable in our society and to our organization. We will continue to look into the incident while offering resources and providing support to Dante and his family to help them through this private matter.”

As Jessica Williams pointed out after the Super Bowl, the NFL itself is far from the wholesome entertainment experience we all pretend it is. Not only does the organization continually exploit cheerleaders, but players are implicated time and time again in domestic abuse and sexual assault scandals. The NFL has some cleaning up to do. This is just further proof of that.
