The Weeknd Was Drunk And In Love At Billboard’s First Ever Music Festival
This weekend, Billboard had its first ever Hot 100 Festival at New York’s beautiful, but incredibly hard-to-get-to Jones Beach.
I know, because I made the two and a half hour trek from Brooklyn. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t take the LIRR unless my life depended upon it, but when life gives you free tickets to go see The Weeknd 6 days before his new album Beauty Behind the Madness releases, catapulting the R&B crooner into skyrocketing fame with the ludicrously expensive ticket prices to match, you f-cking go.
While the crowd was a little bigger and a little younger (didn’t they know Justin Bieber wasn’t performing until Sunday) than either me or my friends were expecting, the number of blunts being passed around in our section was truly admirable. Talk about living life like The Weeknd…because it was the weekend…because it was Saturday.
And even though he couldn’t see us from backstage, I like to think that Abel Tesfaye was smiling down on us, or at the very least also reaching for the closest lighter.
Opening with House of Balloons hit “High For This”, Tesfaye’s set went on to include his big hits “Worth It”, “Love Me Harder”, “Can’t Feel My Face”, “The Hills”, as well a preview of his new Lana Del Rey featured track “Prisoner”.
Oh, and did I mention that he brought the entire house down when he covered Beyonce’s “Drunk In Love?”
Watch his performance below and try not to get too jealous that I was there and you weren’t.
