The Theme For The 2016 Met Gala Could Just Be The Most Boring Ever
Okay, so I don’t want to be a hater or anything, but the theme for the 2016 Met Gala sounds mad boring.
While past themes have included, “Punk: Chaos To Couture” and “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy”, 2016’s theme is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.
According to Vogue, the exhibit will showcase the “dichotomy between handmade haute couture and machine-made fashion.” Snooze fest, right? Maybe not. According to Andrew Bolton, curator of the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute, “Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made, but recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other.”
Okay, we take it back, total snooze fest.
Honestly, the only thing about the exhibition that doesn’t sound totally boring is the fact that the co-chairs don’t just include fashion insiders like Anna Winour and Karl Lagerfeld, but also a woman who’s tour costumes prove that she has absolutely zero taste when it comes to fashion: Taylor Swift.
Still, no matter how hopeless things seem right now for the 2016 Met Gala, at least we know that there’s a pretty good chance that Rihanna will swoop in and save the day by showing up looking fabulous. God bless you, Rihanna. May you deliver us all from Taylor Swift.
