The Model Alliance Fundraiser Combines Beauty and Brains in NYC
The Model Alliance, organized in 2012 by successful models such as Coco Rocha and Sarah Ziff have been striving ever since to give protection and equal opportunity to young models in the industry. Unlike child actors in America, models under the age of 18 are often subject to lack of pay by designers as well as sexual abuse by photographers and other who they agree to work with. Since the founding of the organization, the Model Alliance has managed to put into action a unionization for young models as well as a strict bill of rights outlining how the young models should be expected to be treated at work.
Last night the Alliance’s founding members Coco Rocha and Sarah Ziff hosted a fundraiser for the organization at the Mondrian Hotel in Soho. The charity party was DJed by model Alexandra Richards and attended by a mix of younger models and established fashion fixtures who despite their willowy frames chowed down on the spread provided by Dylan’s Candy Bar. Members of the organization were provided with free swag bags upon leaving the event.
