Taylor’s “Bad Blood” Vid Reminds Us A Lot Of This Throwback Banger
Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated “Bad Blood” video premiered on Sunday at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards and her bevy of famous features looked as killer as we thought they would. The list of stars includes Selena Gomez, Lily Aldridge, Zendaya, Hayley Williams, Gigi Hadid, Ellie Goulding, Hailee Steinfeld, Lena Dunham, Karlie Kloss, Serayah, Jessica Alba, Martha Hunt, Ellen Pompeo, Mariska Hargitay, Cara Delevingne, and Cindy Crawford. Most notably, though, were the two verses Kendrick Lamar, or “Welvin Da Great” contributed to the song; Taylor Swift always talks about how much she loves Kendrick’s “Backseat Freestyle”, and now he’s even appropriated some of the song for his verse on “Bad Blood”. The song sounds even better, and the video with all of its villainous french-braided women, is fun to watch.
Many of the comment sections on the pages posting the video say things like, “Doesn’t this video exist already, and isn’t it called ‘Toxic’?”.
Joseph Kahn, the man behind the video, also directed Spears’ video years ago, and does seem to have a soft spot for girls in uniform. I went back and watched “Toxic”. Britney doesn’t have the visual assistance of 15 other models and celebrities, but Britney’s got a presence that fulfills every role she plays.
Britney and Taylor comparison aside, however, are the videos really any good? I’m inclined to say no.
