This dance class is for women who want to be music video vixens without all the gross boys
Like most women, from time to time I’ve found myself wishing I was a dancer. I mean, who in their right mind hasn’t?
Dancers are hot. Dancers are sexy. Dancers know how to make humanity cower in insignificance whenever they wind their hips on a dance floor.
But like most women, there have always been two things holding me back from actually being a dancer: talent and a lack of interest in taking hours of class to fix that.
So when I got an email inviting me to try out SassClass, a new sexy dance class that culminates in a music video shoot, despite the nagging voice at the back of my head screaming, “You’ll just make a fool out of yourself,” I knew the opportunity was too good to pass up.
I mean, I’m 28 years old. My days of being a music video hoe are clearly numbered.
And you know what? I ended up having a lot of fun.

See? Look how much fun I’m having! My hands are in the air like I just don’t care about anything besides having fun! And I do not.

SassClass was created by Julia Sokol as a way for hardworking women to get a little release from some of the many things that drag them down, like monotonous lifestyles, fuckboys, and their own insecurities.
A lofty goal if I’ve ever heard one.
Over the course of 2-5 weeks, participants learn a full dance routine that culminates in a professionally shot and edited 3-minute long music video, complete with special effects.
Although full disclosure, that’s not what I did.
I did a mini-series Julia put together just for Galore, and I got fellow Galore writer Ashley Uzer to do it with me.

Here’s me braiding Ashley’s hair behind the scenes. Aren’t we just too much?
Alongside a group of seven women who love SassClass so much they openly call themselves “SassSisters,” we learned as much choreography as we could in two hours, before taking a quick hair and makeup break before the video shoot.
And as nervous as I was about making a fool out of myself when I stepped into the studio, the whole experience was surprising chill.
All of the SassSisters were non-professional dancers, just like us, and the choreography was surprisingly easy to pick up.
I mean, it was hard enough that it took a room of non-dancers a few minutes to get it, but that was no problem because even though we were on a deadline, Julia always made sure to go over the moves until everybody felt confident.
Plus she’s not afraid to cut a move if it’s just not working for you. Seriously, there was this one sexy shoe pivot thing we were all working on for 15 minutes that Julia decided to cut for all our sakes.
And that’s kind of the best part about SassClass. Unlike any other dance class you’ll take, the goal isn’t to be perfect or look like an idiot trying, it’s just to let go and have a good time.
Sure, when I watched the video we made I was once again faced with the reality check that I am not gifted in the dancing arts, but who cares. I did something I didn’t think I could do and it felt pretty damn exhilarating.
So if you’re curious, you can check out the video that we shot here, but like I said, the video is cool, but the real value in SassClass is in how much fun you feel by pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.
Plus, you’ll look totally hot while doing it. Which never hurts.
