“Removed” Gives Us A Glimpse Into An iPhone Heavy World

Let’s face it, it’s 2015 and totally acceptable to be glued to your phone at all times. Whether it’s for work, texting your latest crush, or catching up on the latest news, society has deemed cell phones to be a helpful and necessary aspect of daily life. But what if we aren’t aware of the potentially negative impact because we are too glued to the screen?

According to Refinery29, Photographer and artist Eric Pickersgill dove into this concept and created a series titled “Removed”, in which he took various photographs of individuals in different situations using their cell phone, and then edited out cell phones in order to show how strange we look using them all the time. In one photo, a newly married couple leans against a car in which the words “JUST MARRIED” are written in the back window, but they are staring at their empty hands instead of interacting with each other. In another photo, a couple is laying on a couch but completely consumed by their cell phone use instead of each other.

“Removed” is an extremely relevant series, meant to make you slightly uncomfortable, that helps us to take a step back and really consider the amount of time we spend daily on our cell phones instead of paying attention to the ones we care about.
