Oh Honey Shares Their All-Time Favorite Duets
Indie-pop duo Oh Honey are definitely sweethearts, but they’re also so much more than their name might suggest. The pair just kicked off their first headlining tour in support of their gorgeous new record Wish You Were Here. Danielle and Mitchy gave us the scoop on tour life, making their new album and the secrets behind their inspiring duets. Read it all, below.
A certain sweetness is definitely implied with a name like Oh Honey and songs like “Sugar, You”. Is there a bad side to the sweetness? Any wild nights of rebellion?
There’s definitely been some crazy nights on tour inspired by a combination of Jameson Gingers, Tito’s n Sprite, and way too many shots of Fireball. We’ll leave it at that.
What are some of your all-time favorite duets?
What is the best way to spend a night out on the town in Brooklyn?
Barcade is a Williamsburg staple, great beers & tons of old arcade games that only cost a quarter to play. Matchless in Greenpoint is also a regular hangout spot, it’s always blasting old pop punk songs, plus they have mac n cheese which is always a win. And Brooklyn Bowl is probably our favorite spot for shows.
Tell us about your new EP, Wish You Were Here. What were the moments that went into this record?
This EP was very personal for us – it’s a culmination of our experiences in life and love, both good and bad. “It Can’t Rain Forever” is pretty much our mantra. We’ve experienced crazy ups and downs, but no matter how dark things get, we like to think that the storm will always pass. “Compass” is about trying to make a long-distance relationship work despite the challenge of constantly being out on the road, and “A Thousand Times” is about losing love and the regret that comes with it. Both songs are based on relationships we’ve had — currently and in the past. “Sugar, You” is about that person in everyone’s lives that we admire from a distance and want to get to know better. We’ve all known someone like that at some point. Life’s too short not to go after what you want!
You’re about to embark on your first headline tour, Postcards Across America – tell us about one adventure you’re dying to take at a stop on your journey.
We’re checking out Alcatraz in San Francisco which we haven’t been to, but should be a really cool experience. And definitely VooDoo Doughnut in Portland – it’s one of our favorites.
