Tyra Banks “Fierce Up” Model Search Winners On How To Do The Natural Makeup Look
Last August, Tyra Banks and a team of her “Beautytainers” (those who sell Tyra makeup products) came together to host Fierce Up, the first ever TYRA Beauty national sales conference in Las Vegas. The event hosted its first model search to recruit fresh talent for the 2017 TYRA Beauty campaign.
The Fierce Up model search partnered with international modeling agency L.A. Models, which was specifically responsible for helping to launch Tyra’s career. The model search was super inclusive and the winners were individuals of many shapes, sizes, ages, and heights –anyone who came to slay!
Galore caught up with the winners to hear more about the victory and learn some of their beauty tips and tricks.
Jocelyn Gonzalez
What was your first reaction when you found out you won?
I was in shock. I thought there was another contestant with the same name as me, but everything sunk in as soon as I looked up and saw my face on the screen.
Your fav thing about Tyra?
My favorite thing about Ms. Tyra is how humble and understanding she is.
What’s your fav product from the collection?
My favorite product from TYRA Beauty would have to be Smack My Fat Lash mascara because when you don’t have time or patience for fake lashes, it’s the perfect product.
Your biggest secret for the no-makeup-makeup look?
Good lighting is my secret for the no-makeup-makeup look, and also good products.
What do you think you’ll experiment with for your Fall beauty look?
Definitely the new TYRA Beauty skin care products.
Rebecca Amahayes
What was your first reaction when you found out you won?
My first reaction when I realized I won was shock and pure excitement. All the hard work to get to Vegas paid off.
Your fav thing about Tyra?
My favorite thing about Tyra is her bold and confident personality. She uplifts and inspires women to be “flawsome” every day, and I strongly admire her for that.
What’s your fav product from the collection?
My favorite product would have to be Brow. Set. Match. dual-sided brow definer. To me, nothing is more important than getting your eyebrows to look filled, but still natural.
Your biggest secret for the no-makeup-makeup look?
My biggest makeup-no-makeup look secret is bronzer! The perfect glow can step your entire makeup routine up to the next level.
What do you think you’ll experiment with for your Fall beauty look?
For my Fall beauty look, I’m all about the lipsticks and lashes. My style is very vintage-grunge so I love finding new colored lipsticks to compliment all of my flannels and sweaters.

What was your first reaction when you found out you won?
Honestly, I went into shock! I remember hearing the Tyra Banks announce my name and then everything going quiet. I looked all around the room and then froze. One of my best friends and “Smize Squad” team members then shook me with tears of joy in her eyes shouting, “That’s you! Get up there on the stage!” Hence it taking me so long to get up to the stage.
Your fav thing about Tyra?
I would have to say my favorite thing about Tyra is what she stands for. She is all about empowerment, self-confidence, and being the best, badass, fiercest you that, you can be.
What’s your fav product from the collection?
One of my absolute favorites is…do I have to pick just one? I love and stand behind all of the TYRA Beauty products. They are pretty addicting. Once you start, you don’t want to stop!
Your biggest secret for the no-makeup-makeup look?
One of my biggest secrets to boost my no-makeup-makeup look is the “Meet the Parents” side of the Line Em’ duo kohl liner from the TYRA Beauty line. I apply it to my waterline to give that big “doe-eyed” look. I even add some to the tear duct area before topping it off with the Super Smize eye highlighter.
What do you think you’ll experiment with for your Fall beauty look?
One of my favorite things about fall is that amazing deep plum lip color. The TYRA Beauty I’m Glossy lip gloss in shade “Berry Sexy” is a given for me. However, I’d say the thing I’m most excited to experiment with is eye shadow color. I cannot wait to play with some beautiful fall-inspired color combinations.

What was your first reaction when you found out you won?
I was astonished! I entered the competition not expecting anything, so that night when I heard Tyra Banks call my name I cried out in excitement. I’ve looked up to Tyra my whole life and to know that I get to work with her makes me so happy.
Your fav thing about Tyra?
There is so much to love about Tyra, but one of the main things I love is how authentic she is. She is the real deal. You just don’t meet too many people like that anymore. I also love how empowering, inspiring, and intelligent she is. Tyra is the true definition of a leader and a true example of a woman.
What’s your fav product from the collection?
Contouring is my favorite! I feel like a look isn’t complete without it. I’m obsessed with TYRA Beauty’s Sculpt in a Stick contour stick. ‘Warm’ is the perfect contour color for me and because the product is so buttery, the application process is made easy.
Your biggest secret for the no-makeup-makeup look?
It’s all about the highlight! On days where I decide to wear light makeup, I put Tyra’s Light in a Stick highlighter on the highest points of my face to give me that natural, healthy looking glow.
What do you think you’ll experiment with for your Fall beauty look?
Dark lip colors like red and plum. I’ve been wanting to play around with an accent lip color. Tyra always looks so fierce with her burgundy lips.
Mahajjah Tisdale
What was your first reaction when you found out you won?
When I found out that I had been chosen as one of the ten winners of Tyra Banks’ modeling contest, I literally sat in my chair in awe – especially since she was actually able to properly pronounce my name! Modeling, let alone modeling for Tyra Banks, has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. It was that moment when I realized that my chance was finally here.
Your fav thing about Tyra?
My favorite thing about Tyra aside from her killer businesswoman and feminist qualities would ultimately have to be her ability to relate to women and young girls globally.
What’s your fav product from the collection?
My favorite product from the TYRA Beauty collection would have to be “The Clean Machine” foaming face wash and turbo cleansing tool (Phew! Try saying that three times fast). Healthy vibrant skin comes first.
Your biggest secret for the no-makeup-makeup look?
My secret for the no-makeup-makeup look is to apply enough to accent your favorite or best features, but still assure each coating is light enough to keep the boys in the dark. They’re on to us these days.
What do you think you’ll experiment with for your Fall beauty look?
This fall, I’m eager to try out warmer lip shades.

What was your first reaction when you found out you won?
Besides excitement and joy, I was thinking to myself, ‘is this real life?’
Your fav thing about Tyra?
I love Tyra’s personality. She literally has the best personality I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched her on TV since I was little and been loving that crazy silly personality ever since. Seeing her in person acting the same, and talking how she does, made me love that about her even more. She just gives off so much personality and life to people.
What’s your fav product from the collection?
My favorite product has to be the B.I.G Lash extending mascara and silk extensions. I was recording a makeup video for my YouTube channel as I used it for the first time and my reaction was priceless. It literally made my eyelashes 2x as long, it was crazy. And ever since, I’ve been using it every day. I probably need to stock up on some more now.
Your biggest secret for the no-makeup-makeup look?
Using concealer only on parts that you need to cover up and especially under the eyes just to brighten you up. And set it with a good translucent powder. Lastly, set the whole face with a dewy finish setting spray for that flawless looking glow.
What do you think you’ll experiment with for your Fall beauty look?
I’ve experienced so much with makeup and have tried so many different looks, but I’d love to try a glittery smoky eye with a nice dark fall lip. Sound gorgeous? And I don’t use glitter much. so I should try it out more.

What was your first reaction when you found out you won?
Well, I was on Facebook Live at the time, I really had no expectation to win whatsoever. I was in shock. I immediately started crying, like really hard. My husband took over my phone and got the whole thing recorded live.
Your fav thing about Tyra?
I love how empowering and motivating she is when she speaks. I have had the pleasure of meeting her in person four times this year and each time just keeps getting better. My husband owns his own business and he even enjoys attending our events just to hear her speak. He always walks out feeling fantastic even though what she is saying doesn’t directly apply to him.
What’s your fav product from the collection?
I absolutely love TYRA Beauty Skincare. In particular, The Clean Machine facial wash. But I have to admit that I can’t go without my Brow. Set. Match. at all.
Your biggest secret for the no-makeup-makeup look?
Color correcting before my base with TYRA Beauty Cheek in a Stick in the shade “Sexy Hot Flash.”
What do you think you’ll experiment with for your Fall beauty look?
Dark liquid lipsticks, I was never a lipstick person before TYRA Beauty. My Esos ball was pretty much it. But, after a full year of comfortably wearing lipstick multiple times a week, I think it’s time I try something new for my favorite season of the year.
Jordan LaRay Hall
What was your first reaction when you found out you won?
My first reaction when Tyra called my name was pure disbelief. Going through my head was, “well, there’s nine girls up there so it’s over for me.” And then, bam! Tyra says “Jordan LaRay” and I had a mini heart attack. There’s footage on my Instagram.
Your fav thing about Tyra?
It’s hard to pick just one favorite thing about Tyra. She literally is the person that inspired me to become a model. Watching America’s Next Top Model as a kid changed me. But I have to say my favorite thing is how she believes in us models that aren’t part of the “cookie cutter” norm that we are all so used to seeing.
What’s your fav product from the collection?
I can’t even lie, I’m a sucker for highlighters! TYRA Beauty Light In a Stick is the first product I ever laid eyes on.
Your biggest secret for the no-makeup-makeup look?
As a makeup artist I know sometimes even those “no” make up looks have a lot of makeup. The only little secret I can really pass on is that just a little bit of mascara and a brow fill can go a long way.
What do you think you’ll experiment with for your Fall beauty look?
A trend I’ve seen this season is brightly colored brows. As somebody who is usually a little more editorial and edgy with white hair and bleached off brows, I think it’d be fun to fill them in with some fun colors.

Lost my breath, was speechless, and all I could think was, ‘I did it.’

Her realness and passion to be so involved with TYRA Beauty and the women/men it’s made up of. Tyra is providing a platform for limitless opportunity & she has been right there to cheer us on.

Not easy to say one. But I don’t leave the house without Brow. Set. Match.
Your biggest secret for the no-makeup-makeup look?
Contour and highlight. The 2 minute TYover is my every day. Never too much highlight.

I am going to experiment with TYRA Beauty’s Eyes in a Stick shades, and perfecting my Smize!
