¡Extra, extra!

Last Sunday, April 27th, Venezuelan-Peruvian singer-songwriter and producer MJ Nebreda took the stage at Mexico City’s Expo Santa Fe. Playing alongside Spanish alternative folk singer Judeline and Mexican R&B up-and-comer Mené as a part of Cercle’s first showcase in CDMX, Nebreda’s fans crowded the immersive 360° stage in the center of the large space to witness Nebreda’s first live show in Latin America.

Following her well-received Arepa mixtape, MJ Nebreda dropped new EP Corazón Club Vol. 1. A showcase of their growth as a producer, the first taste of Nebreda’s new era saw them collaborate with Safety Trance, Bitter Babe, CRRDR, Phran, and more.

Taking the stage in an avant-garde bridal outfit, matched by her DJ and frequent collaborator Lao, Nebreda’s vintage Gucci heels clacked on the central stage as they strutted to the mix of cumbia, raptor house, reggaeton, and deconstructed club that has made their name.

Nebreda, who uses she/they pronouns interchangebaly, has brought a queer-femme centric lens to the Latin Club scene as both an artist and a producer. From her collaborations with Nick León and Ms Nina to the sensitive club-ready anthems that show off her chops as a vocalist, Nebreda is actively working on her next EP.

MJ Nebreda sent us an exclusive photo diary of their day preparing and performing at their first live show in Latin America. Check it out below.

10:04 — SOUNDCHECK, EXPO SANTA FE

I’m excited to play the new version of “Quedate” and the remixes of “Frida Kahlo”, the songs with DJ Babatr and DJ Yirvin, and “Calor”. Honestly, even bringing it down to nine songs was hard for me.

22:17 — BACKSTAGE, EXPO SANTA FE

This was my first live in Latin America, and it felt right doing it. It felt good. My outfit was a bridal-deconstructed-formal-hoe outfit…she’s running away from a bad relationship, a bad situationship —and she looks good doing it.
