Meet Designer Karolina Zmarlak: Fashion’s Tailoring Sweetheart

Polish born fashion designer Karolina Zmarlak impresses us with her awesome tailored designs. We spoke to her about her fashion roots, influences and designs. Check it out!


Where are you from?
Krosno, home of glass blowing in Poland. My family moved to Chicago in 1992, winning the Bill Clinton Greencard lottery. Our Collection is now carried at the Saks Fifth Avenue on Michigan Ave in Chicago…now my family from Krosno has more reason to come visit.

How’d you get into fashion?
My European sensibility and diverse Chicago community spirited my interest in technically based, visual creativity.

Has it been a hard industry to break?
Breakneck is the speed at which I move to maintain pace in this extraordinary industry.

How would you describe your designs? 
I employ modernist tailoring, refined architectural construction and innovative fabrics. As a woman I have a highly personal awareness and connection with the female dimension and shape.


How would you describe this fall collection?
We focused on precision tailoring and the female silhouette adhering to the idea of a constantly changing woman, while remaining true to European minimalism.
