How to Make a Tequila-Free Margarita That Still Gets You Turnt
Cinco de Mayo is upon us, so get ready to have shots of tequila thrust in your face from every direction from about noon onwards.
It’s pretty chill if you love tequila. But if you’re one of the unlucky few who finds tequila literally vomit-inducing, you might be dreading every shot that comes your way.
But guess what? You can at least enjoy that other notorious tequila drink — margaritas — without Lucifer’s limonada. How, you ask? Through the magic of Tito’s vodka and/or a little drink we love to call Lime-A-Rita.
We’ve assembled three of our favorite non-tequila-containing margarita recipes for your Cinco de Mayo enjoyment. Check them out below and thank us tomorrow when you haven’t tossed your galletas.
1. The Jala-Peño Rita
I tried this spicy little number at a Lime-A-Rita party last month and it was so good, I had to literally stop myself from sucking down the whole thing in one fell swoop. You’ve been warned.
You’ll need:
4oz Lime-A-Rita
½ sliced jalapeno
1 oz seltzer water
Chili salt rim
Lime garnish
Shake them all together with some ice and pour into a glass, bonus points if said drinking vessel has jalapeño-related imagery. Toss a lime wedge on the side and don’t forget the squeeze it in — lime can prevent hangovers!
2. Peachy Lemonade
This one’s better for the, how do I put this, novice drinker. If you haven’t quite cracked the code for how to sip a cocktail without cringing, try this sweet drink on Cinco.
2oz Peach-A-Rita
2oz Lemon-Ade-Rita
Top with 1oz seltzer water
Sugar rim
Lemon garnish
Again, shake, pour — you know the drill.
3. TitoRita
If you’re despy for hard liquor, this is the cocktail for you.
1.5 oz Tito’s Handmade Vodka
0.5 oz triple sec or orange liqueur
1.5 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
1.5 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
0.5 oz simple syrup
Shake this one and pour it over ice. You can even add some fresh jalapeño to the shaker for extra spice.
Good night and good luck!
