MAC Just Shut Down Racist Comments Posted on This Instagram
New York Fashion Week just got really ugly.
Late Wednesday evening, MAC posted a close-up photo of model Aamito Lagum, 19, wearing dark purple lipstick at the Ohne Titel fashion show.
After the image was posted to their account, users immediately attacked the young model with racial slurs like “fish lips” and “n**** lips,” and comparing Aamito’s mouth to Jay Z’s as an insult.
Since then, MAC has also taken to Instagram to post again, and has reflected the sentiments in their statements to press.
“MAC stands for and respects All Ages, All Races, All Sexes,” the company wrote. “We do not tolerate any abusive comments in our community.”

Aamito has also responded in an Instagram photo that has apparently been deleted. Huffington Post reported what she had written before it disappeared.
“As I turn 20 in a couple days this is a reminder of what I endured in the past and if I survived middle school in America I can get over this,” she reportedly wrote before deleting the post. “The bullying and alienation from others solely based on my features and skin color did not stop me from doing what I want.”
