Kanye Confirms Bid For President And Teases New Album Name
Since ending his VMA award acceptance speech with his presidential bid for 2020, we’ve all been skeptical about if Kanye West was serious about running, and thanks to an interview with Vanity Fair, we’ve received our official confirmation. When asked point blank if he was still thinking of running in 2020 he answers, “Oh. Definitely.” Even though he says it’s fun to be a rock star, it’s clear he’s taking this next move seriously. He admits that even when he’s in the club he’s thinking, “Wow, I’ve got five years before I go and run for office and I’ve got a lot of research to do, I’ve got a lot of growing up to do.”
Despite acknowledging himself as a controversial figure, he’s not surprised that people actually took him seriously as a candidate. West knows he’s polarizing but goes on to clarify, “As soon as I said that, it was like, ‘Wait a second, we would really be into that, because actually if you think about it, he’s extremely thoughtful. Every time he’s ever gotten in trouble, he was really jumping in front of a bullet for someone else. He’s probably the most honest celebrity that we have.’”
So does his presidential campaign mean the end of his music and fashion career? Not at all, he’s still working on expanding his Yeezy line, hoping to open physical stores, and his new album (which he revealed is currently called Swish) with an unconfirmed release date. “I’m not worried about the years. I’m worried about the life and the body of work that I can put out while I’m breathing,” he says.
He’s not afraid of being overwhelmed working on all of these things simultaneously either, “The whole point is to have someone [in office] that’s creative, that’s around amazing creatives. This is my theory: I think the world can be helped through design, so it’s very important that I stay around creative, forward thinkers. It’s very important that I continue to design, to be in practice of trying to make the best decisions possible.”
Kanye West is a man of the people, he’s given us “Gold Digger“ and pregnant Kim. Just think of the dope campaign merchandise possibilities. To some, he’s the presidential candidate we need and deserve, a true man of the people. To others, the idea of Kanye leading our nation is entirely too scary. “I hate politics. I’m not a politician at all. I care about the truth and I just care about human beings.” #YEEZY2020
