So You Wanna Look Like a Sports Illustrated Model?
So you wanna look like a ‘Sports Illustrated’ model? Julie Henderson has got you covered! The SI babe is no stranger to rocking a seriously sexy swimsuit (see: working it for SEVEN CONSECUTIVE YEARS on the glossy Sports Illustrated pages!) But there’s more! Henderson has recently launched her first design collaboration with swimwear powerhouse BASTA Surf. And the looks are FIRE! And — meow! — reversible! We chatted with the beauty about her line — which y’all can purchase on SHOPBOP — and about getting the perfect beach bod. Summer couldn’t come any sooner!
What are your favorite pieces from the collection?
I love the ‘ONFRE’ bikini. It has the flounce top and the bottoms have a double tie on the side. All my bikinis are reversible, so you get two suits for one, which I love.
What Sports Illustrated shoot was the wildest for you?
My second year in Sports Illustrated we were shooting at Discovery Cove. We were doing shots with the dolphins, parrots, stingrays, etc. But there was this one shot we did that I still think is the craziest — they had me laying on a rock ledge over a pool of sharks. I was so scared but I have to admit the picture came out amazing!
Tell me about your daily routine routine.
Every morning I apply moisturizing sunscreen. The most important thing I must do is always wash my makeup off before going to bed.
What are your fitness secrets?
To keep me motivated, I love to a mix of yoga, running through Central Park, Chaise23 and kickboxing!
What did you do for Valentine’s Day?
I was in Las Vegas promoting Sports Illustrated.
What music gets you pumped and ready to do your thing on a shoot? I love Rihanna and any ’80s pop.
Who are some of your favorite photographers?
Mario Testino, David Sims, Steven Meisel, Steven Klein, Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Sorrenti.
And other favorite models?
Christy Turlington and Karlie Kloss
Current guilty pleasure: Mexican food!
If you could raid any of your style icon’s closets, who would it be and why?
My best friend and Vogue booking editor Valerie Boster, along with Giselle’s.
