Why Jhené Aiko Can’t Get Enough Of Jewelry Designer Jacquie Aiche
Jacquie Aiche is the darling jewlery designer whose delicate, LA-made pieces are loved by Hollywood’s fashion heavy hitters. Just this summer, we’ve seen Jhené Aiko, Zoe Saldana, and some of the hottest Victoria’s Secret angels wearing Jacquie Aiche. We could recognized the designs by her signature luxe metals and boldly coloured stones that define Aiche’s precious pieces. Galore wanted to find out more about the woman behind the jewelry that women are on long waiting lists for, so I talked to Jacquie about growing up, becoming the hottest jewlery designer of the moment, and got a crash course in crystals.
Stephanie Janetos: You were raised in an Egyptian/ American household. Where did you grow up? How did your upbringing influence your sense of style?
Jacquie Aiche: I was raised in Los Angeles with a pretty strict father and a free spirited mother. The combination of the two influenced me to be artistic, but responsible at the same time.
SJ: What’s your earliest style memory?
JA: I went to a private school where we all wore a uniform and to this day, I still have a pair of Mary Janes in my closet.
SJ: Tell us about the first piece of jewelry you created. Do you still have the piece?
JA: The first piece of jewelry I ever made was a wire wrapped beaded necklace with happy, faceted, colorful gems. I don’t have it, all the pieces I make are always for others.
SJ: Your mission is to create jewelry that will make every woman look and feel uniquely beautiful. Is there a specific woman you keep in mind when designing?
JA: I have been blessed with so many inspiring, beautiful women around me that keep the creative energy flowing.
SJ: If you weren’t a jewelry designer, what would you do for a career?
JA: If I wasn’t designing jewelry, I would probably be in the kitchen cooking as I adore feeding the people I love.
SJ: How did you realize the importance of crystals? For those of us not in the know, what do crystals do?
JA: I am always in tune with my gems and crystals. They have become a part of me. As a child, I can remember my best friends mother bathing with her crystals. I couldn’t comprehend what she was doing, which only made me more curious about their energy.
SJ: Do you personally choose out all the stones you will include in your jewelry? How do you decide which to incorporate?
JA: As part of the design process, I pick and play with all the gems that speak to me. They usually choose me instead of the other way around. It’s almost as if they’ve decided to share their healing properties with someone that needs them.
SJ: You are undeniably whimsical. What are some ways you bring the magic of your designs into your everyday life?
JA: My belief has always been that jewels are energy that I want to share with the world. Whether it’s an amulet, a keepsake piece or a bodychain to make you feel sexy, I am sharing my magic with all the beautiful women and hoping they will pass on their own magic to everyone else.
SJ: You are getting a lot of Hollywood attention right now. Do you feel like it is hard to remain a spiritual person in an environment that many believe is superficial?
JA: Actually, it gives me more reason to stay grounded and be true to myself. Having been raised in Hollywood, you know what’s real and what’s not.
