How To Rock Bondage Jewlery According To Ria Michelle

Once goth, once a comic book nerd, and once a super specific Japanese style called ‘gyaru’, blogger Ria Michelle‘s many different personas have grown up and merged into one undefinable being. And Ria‘s glad that it did, because she refuses to lose herself in the sea of labels that people are s0 quick to slap on fashion bloggers. She shutters at words like daring and edgy, but can’t deny that her accessories are bolder than most—especially since a guy once asked her if her neck jewelry was a signal that she was into bondage. Well, someone’s doing necklaces right. Take Ria’s cue: Here are her favorite ways to edge up a simple outfit.

What’s the easiest way for a simply styled girl to add a daring element to her outfit?

Statement pieces. Shoes, bags, or jewelry do the trick. You can change up the whole vibe with the addition of a killer piece. Always invest in these three items, everything else can be fast fashion. Trust.

What are your favorite edgy accessories?

My favorite edgy accessories are always hardware. I love collars, chains and the like. I had a guy ask me if I liked being choked during you know what because I always wear chokers. AWKWARD. Like chill, it’s an Eddie Borgo necklace… On that note, I also love a good pair of sunglasses.

Which strong females have most inspired your look?

Rihanna. Rihanna…hmmm let me think…Rihanna. I’ve always strayed from this question because I always felt like “pshh I’m ME! I’m so unique what are you talking about?!” But I realized over the past few years my style aligns with Rih’s. People dear to me even call me “Ri”. She’s a bad a$$ island ting. I’d like to think of myself as a bad a$$ island ting too so I’m not mad at any Rihanna comparisons.

What’s a sentimental accessory you don’t think you’ll ever get rid of?

My first Chanel bag. It’s still my only one, at least for now. I never thought of myself as a Chanel girl but I went to London on a girls trip. We ended up in Chanel and I fell in love with that chained bad boy right on the spot. It’s my favorite thing ever.

What is you accessory strategy for summer? Which pieces are in your every day rotation?

I like to keep clothing to a minimal because it’s like 100 degrees in Miami. I wish I was exaggerating. I let my accessories do the talking. Plunging necklaces, or chokers. Delicate pieces on the fingers and wrists. Makes me feel dainty. I’m into gold. I always make sure my sunglasses game is on point.
