3 Healthy & EASY Ways To Kick The Dessert Craving
I have always been pretty into fitness (growing up with a workout-nazi [and doctor] as a father helped). I work out nearly everyday, I eat healthy, and I drink lots of water. However, I also have a HUGE sweet-tooth that can never seem to be satisfied. While I’m good about not buying junk at the grocery store, if a co-worker brings Baked by Melissa into the office, you can bet your ass I’ll be casually creeping to the break room for seconds, and thirds..
If you’ve got a sweet tooth like me, you probably crave a little something sugar-y mid afternoon or after dinner late at night. Instead of giving in, try these quick fixes- before you know it, you won’t be waking up to dreams of swimming in chocolate.
1. Apples, Almond Butter, & Cinnamon
This is kind of like the healthy version of a no-bake apple crumble, and it’s easy as pie (no pun intended). Chop up half an apple in a bowl (or a whole one if you’re really hungry), add a spoonful of almond butter and some cinnamon, and heat it up in the microwave for about 2 minutes. It tastes just like dessert, I swear! Keep in mind, the healthiest almond butter is one without any added sugar or other ingredients, so try your best to get one that’s sole ingredient is almonds!
2. Banana, Peanut Butter, & Honey
This is basically the naughty twin sister to the option above, it still involves fruit and a protein with some sweetness. Half a banana, a scoop of peanut butter (again, try to get the most organic peanut butter possible), and either some cinnamon or a little bit of honey. This definitely is as tasty cold as it is warm, but something about warm, gooey peanut butter and banana makes it really feel like dessert.
3. Chocolate-Banana-Almond Protein Shake (but basically ice cream)
This is hands down one of my favorite snacks ever in the summertime to kick the ice cream cravings to the curb. You’ll need:
half a banana (frozen is best)
one scoop of almond butter
one spoonful of organic coconut shavings (optional)
one spoonful of organic cocoa powder
one scoop of vanilla protein powder (also optional)
almond milk (as much as you need for the right consistency)
cinnamon (to taste)
All you have to do is stick everything in the blender and voila! An ice-cream like treat that’s way better than anything you’ll get from Shake Shack. If you’re slacking on your veggies for the day, toss some kale or spinach in there, you’ll never taste it under the chocolate-y goodness.
