Goodbye Zayn Malik, Hello MC Zed

It’s official: One Direction as we know and love it has come to an end.

Just one week after he decided to take a break from touring, Zayn Malik announced on Facebook that he was going to make that break last forever saying, “My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years…I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time.”

While there’s probably more than a couple shreds of truth to this, it’s also entirely possible that Malik just wanted to make as diplomatic a split from the band as possible so as not to alienate too many fans when he launches his solo career as a rap artist.

That’s right.  A rap artist.

According to the Internet, Zayn’s always had plans to rap on future 1D albums, and it’s no secret that Malik’s been working with British music producer Naughty Boy (of “La La La” fame).

While Zayn Malik certainly wouldn’t be the first ex-boy band member to launch a successful solo career (or the second), transitioning from a pop star to a rap star is a mighty feat, even for our handsome prince.  With clips of Zayn rapping in short supply on the Internet, we guess we’ll just have to wait for Naughty Boy’s album to drop to pass judgement.  Cross your fingers for baby MC Zed’s success, y’all.
