Get Golden Bronze Like Gigi Hadid Did At The VMA’s

Last night, MTV’s 2015 VMA show was unforgettable…to say the least. Gigi Hadid arrived as part of Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video entourage, standing out like a bronzed goddess.

1. Self-tanner. To achieve an all-over sunkissed bronze skintone, you don’t need to hit the beach. Grab an instant self tanner, like this spray-on body mist from Sephora, or the St. Tropez self tan bronzing mousse. Begin by shaving and exfoliating with a mitt or gloves before you apply. Make sure to apply a moisturizing lotion to your ankles, wrists, joints, hands and feet to avoid build-up and unevenness, and if you must apply it to your face, do it very, very sparingly.

2. Neutral palette. Play around with an eyeshadow palette with neutral hues and shimmer finishes like the obvious option, the Naked3 palette from Urban Decay with rose-hued neutrals, or this Bobbi Brown Nude on Nude Palette. Apply a deeper, amber shadow to the crease and outer corner, highlight the lid with a rich, sparkly gold and dust the inner corner and upper brow with a lighter, shimmery shade and blend.

3. Contour and highlight. Over a basic foundation routine, add a rich bronzer with a satin finish like the Too Faced Sun Bunny Natural Bronzer using a “3” formation, beginning at the upper hairline, rounding into the cheekbone and then just below the jawbone. Highlight the nose, chin, cheekbones and brow bone with a luminizing face highlighter like the High Beam highlighter from Benefit.

4. Voluminous coif. Not suitable for everyday wear, Gigi’s retro hairstyle is great for special events and steal-able with just a few steps. Using a teasing comb and a delicate hair spray, gently tease hair around the crown of the head. Then combing the front section over the top, spray and shape as you go to create a 60s style coiffure. It’s not as easy as it looks, but with practice, or help from a beauty professional, the style can be achieved.
