Galore Music: Kat Dahlia

Hailing from Miami Beach, Cuban-American singer/songwriter/rapper Kat Dahlia was born with a little something extra than most of her industry colleagues. Her unique style of music has gotten the attention of record label big wigs and the 2013 release of her debut album, “My Garden”, has fans waiting with anticipation. We got to sit down with Kat and find out more about the artist for our new ‘Women In Fashion’ issue. Check it out below and make sure to pick up an issue for yourself HERE!

How did growing up in Miami influence your sound?

My family is Cuban, so as a child I was listening to a lot of salsa and merengue. There are so many influences from the Caribbean here, from Cuba, to Puerto Rico, Haiti, Jamaica.

Your style of music is like “gangsta pop”. Are there any artist that you look  up to?

Look up to? Not really. I appreciate, and have admiration. But I just constantly challenge myself to be better…for myself and for others.

What is your favorite song on the new record?

I don’t know if I have one favorite record, but a few of my favorites are My Garden, Walk On Water, and Just Another dude. My favorite changes every day …. Sometimes I don’t hear a record for a while, and I hear it after a while and fall in love all over again!

This is our fashion issue who is your ultimate fashion icon?

Nicole Ritchie has the dopest mixture of looks. She can go from boho-chic to really elegant and still look effortless.

If you could raid anyone’s closets whose would it be?

Gianni Versace.

Stilettos or Sneakers?

What are your plans for fall?

We’re setting up a tour, so lots of traveling and shows, and creating more music. Keep a look out for dates and locations!
