Beware: When the Disappearing Ex Returns
You’re headed out of work on a Friday afternoon. Feeling good, looking forward to an exciting weekend, when you get a buzz on your phone. You check out your latest text message, and your heart sinks and/or flies. It’s that guy you were actually really f***ing into that suddenly stopped hitting you up about six months ago.
What is it about guys that they always contact us when we’ve finally forgotten about them? Did they realize that, contrary to their previous beliefs, they can’t live without us? Did they notice that no other girls they dated since could measure up? Did they lose our phone number and endlessly search for it for a full year until they found it again?
Sure, maybe (and it’s a big f***ing maybe) this dude was going through his wild frat-boy phase and actually being nice to a girl was nowhere near his radar. Maybe he’s grown up a little bit and realized that you were actually pretty cool and he shouldn’t have stopped hanging with you.
I’m not saying you should shun every single guy who goes M.I.A. and then mysteriously shows up again, but you should take it with extreme caution- and make him work for it.
If you’re going to be honest with yourself, you know that maybe this dude has been having a dry-spell, and figured he would hit you up and see if you’re still DTF. Or maybe the girl he’s been seeing dumped his ass and he needs a rebound. Whatever way you spin it, it’s really not looking good for you. Fool me once, shame on you, but fool me twice, shame on me. Second chances are great when it comes to job opportunities and shopping- not so much when it comes to relationships. Do yourself a favor and keep the past in the past.
