@Chanel_Archives Chooses The Brand’s Best Looks Of All Time
As Paris Fashion Week comes to a close, a particular show caught our eye (as it usually does), set inside a makeshift airport terminal with our favorite it-girls sitting front row—we’re talking about the Chanel Spring 2016 show, in which Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais into a modern and chic airport terminal.
Throughout the years, Chanel has had a characteristic classic style in which many have always loved and obsessed over, and in the age of social media, we discovered an Instagram that’s an ode to Chanel, displaying its vintage as well as modern clothing in all their beauty.
@Chanel_Archives, created and curated by Ryan McMahon, has over 44,000 devoted followers who share their love for all things Chanel. For celebration’s sake, we asked McMahon to put together his 12 favorite vintage Chanel looks of all time, as well as giving us insight into the idea and creation of @Chanel_Archives. Galore: So tell us, how was your Instagram account started?
Ryan McMahon: I’ve been collecting hundreds of pictures and videos from vintage Chanel shows and campaigns and never came across a site or account that was posting only vintage Chanel, so I decided to start an Instagram account posting my favorite campaigns and supermodels from the 90s.”
What was your idea behind the brand?
RM: I think people see Chanel as a very proper and formal brand nowadays, but during the 90s Chanel had a very different, fun, and carefree feel to it, so I wanted to make a page just for Chanel of the 90s with that aesthetic.
What are your feelings about the Chanel Spring 2016 show at Paris Fashion Week?
RM: I love how the collection is very futuristic but has 70s vibes with bell bottoms and chunk heels, and the first thing I thought of when I saw the backward caps was the hip-hop themed fall winter 1991 show. The girls I like who walked in the show were Ming Xi, Soo Joo Park, Lindsey Wixson, Stella Maxwell, Anna Ewers and Imaan Hammann. I’d love to see them all in a big group campaign, which hasn’t happened before.
