Fall In Love With Artist Pizzahontas This Thanksgiving
We know you are eventually going to resort to scrolling through your Instagram feed today, when Grandma’s comments just get a little too offensive and you are tired of explaining to everyone why you’re still single, so why not learn about the new patron saint of Thanksgiving, our savior Pizzahontas. Samantha Hoecherl is the mastermind behind both the hilarious Instagram filled with her original art of your favorite princesses paired with your favorite foods, salty captions, and shots of any pop culture or 90s references your heart desires, and Saint Celebrity, your new favorite Etsy store bringing you prayer candles of icons like Drake and Lana Del Rey, perfect for any of your upcoming Secret Santa’s. In the beginning of this year, The New York Times published “The 36 Questions That Lead to Love”, and Pizzahontas was kind enough to answer them and completely steal our hearts. If we weren’t already smitten by her artistic and comedic talents, her sweet side is what sealed the deal for us and she’s definitely earned a spot on the list of what we’re thankful for.
Galore: Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
Pizzahontas: Amy Winehouse
When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else?
I love to sing, even if it sounds like shit. My friends and I like to get champagne drunk and record classic love duets. They are truly horrifying.
What would constitute a “perfect” day for you?
The other night I had a dream that I went toiletry shopping at CVS with Meryl Streep, I can’t really imagine anything more perfect.
If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?
My parents are both firefighter/paramedics, and when I was a kid my mom used me as a CPR dummy for demonstrations. It’s such a vivid memory, and it always freaked me out.
If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?
The ability to dance.
Complete this sentence: “I wish I had someone with whom I could share … “
…a peanut butter and jelly with.
Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die?
When did you last cry in front of another person? By yourself?
Honestly I can’t even recall the last time I cried by myself, ever since I can remember my family has always referred to me as “the ice queen”. But my best friend John and I have a deal where we set aside one day of the year to listen to Damien Rice and gratuitously ugly cry together.
Your house, containing everything you own, catches fire. After saving your loved ones and pets, you have time to safely make a final dash to save any one item. What would it be? Why?
I had a great aunt that was a hoarder, but also an unbelievable artist. After she died, my family cleaned out her house and found this bizarre amoeba/acid-trip puddle of a blanket she crocheted. It’s huge, and it hangs above my bed. It’s the most valuable piece of art that I own, one of a kind.
For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
Family, hands down.
