Emma Roberts And Aerie Want To Put An End to Photoshopping
In an age where almost every image we see has been photoshopped, Emma Roberts and Aerie are doing the unthinkable: shooting an ad campaign which pledges not to use digital retouching OF ANY KIND.
The 24-year-old Scream Queens actress has partnered with American Eagle brand Aerie to promote body acceptance and positivity by showing women “that real doesn’t mean flawed – real is sexy, real is cool.”
Jennifer Foyle, Aerie Brand President said Emma was a natural fit for the brand because “Emma is the kind of girl our Aerie girls would want to be friends with. Her social media invites her fans into her everyday life in a way they relate to.”
The campaign photos show Roberts lounging around in underwear, t-shirts and nightwear, looking like staring in an ad campaign is just another day in her life. But then again, given the amount of time she’s spent in front of a camera, it probably is.
In an interview with Refinery 21, Roberts said, “I’ve actually never felt more confident and comfortable on set – which is amazing because you don’t have that safety net. But I saw the photos and was like, you know what? This is great – this is just me, in clothes I feel good in, being who I am.”
Adding that “It’s important for me to be a part of this, because I see how hard it is for girls my sister’s age with social media, and feeling like they need to look a certain way. I want to promote the idea that it’s okay to look like yourself – you don’t have to Photoshop your Instagrams!’
While it’s too soon to tell what kind of an impact the Aerie Real campaign will have on the fashion world at large, it’s nice to see an Instagram-age starlet advocating the au natural look. Just because we put filters on all of our pictures, doesn’t mean the real thing isn’t just as beautiful.
