Edward And Bella Swap Genders For ‘Twilight’s’ 10th Anniversary
10 years ago, we were introduced teen lovebirds Bella and Edward, and found ourselves lusting over a guy with who had zero body heat and sparkled in the sun. Now to commemorate the anniversary, Twilight’s author Stephanie Meyer has flipped the script and changed our vampire crush into a girl. Edward is now Edythe, and Bella is Beau, short for Beaufort. Meyer says she was inspired by criticism that claimed Bella was too much of a “damsel in distress.”
During an appearance on Good Morning America, Meyer said “It’s just a love story, and it doesn’t matter who’s the boy and who’s the girl, it still works out.” In the reimagined version, titled “Life and Death”, you can expect to see minor changes to the teen lovers’ personalities and changes to the mythology for consistency. The anniversary edition of “Twilight” will have the original telling alongside “Life and Death”. Sadly, “Midnight Sun”, the Twilight story from Edward’s perspective is still yet to be released after Meyer decided to abandon it after a leak of the manuscript leaked online. While we are excited to read this new version of what is probably one of the landmark millennial romances, we can’t help but wonder if “Fifty Shades of Grey”, the steamy fan-fic turned best-seller inspired by the Bella and Edward is going to get the flip too.
