Dolce And Gabbana Are Having A Bad Day (Er, Week)
The Italian design duo Dolce and Gabbana have come under fire after discussing their views on children conceived through IVF. Both men are gay (and used to date), but maintain, in a Panorama feature, that children born through IVF are “synthetic children.” Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce don’t support the concept of “chemical offspring”— “Life has its natural course, there are things that must not be changed. And one of these is the family,” said Stefano.
Since then, Elton John, has responded with the statement, “How dare you refer to my beautiful children as “synthetic”…shame on you for wagging your judgmental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfill their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana.’
#boycottdg has popped up on different celebrity social media accounts, including those of Kelly Cutrone, Victoria Beckham, and Courtney Love. In a follow-up interview, Stefano responded, “I didn’t expect this, coming from someone whom I considered, and I stress “considered”, an intelligent person like Elton John. I mean, you preach understanding, tolerance and then you attack others? Only because someone has a different opinion? Is this a democratic or enlightened way of thinking?”
Shots fired! Whose side are you on?
