Delicious Bushwick Bites: Tutu’s
Continuing with our Bushwick week, we stopped by Bushwick staple Tutu’s to speak to owner Lucas about having a bar/restaurant in Bushwick and his favorite places to go in the neighborhood. He also shared with us pictures of some of the delicious food they serve at Tutu’s, that one MUST check out, and they make literally the best tequila gimlet I have ever had.

How you guys started?
I’ve know my partner Jason Merritt since I was 12. He owns Big Tree Bottles down the street. We just wanted to build a clubhouse style place where you can grab a drink, a bite & dance like a teenager at a house party. Tutu (which means Grandma in Hawaiian) was what we called my grandma growing up. She was a unique lady who loved telling dirty jokes & drinking firewater (her name for booze). Seemed like the perfect simple name for the place.
How long have you been in Bushwick?
I lived off the Myrtle J train stop about 10 years ago. I was in Williamsburg for a long time then came back to Bushwick (500 feet from Tutu’s) a couple years back. Love it our here.
What do you offer the neighborhood?
Yummy food & drinks, dance parties, screenings (Mad Men starts Sunday). We are also known for our brunch. It can tend to turn into a long day of drinking with friends. We are also really excited for outdoor seating to come back for spring/summer!
