NYFW is Claire McKinney’s First Gig Straight Out of College
As if New York Fashion Week isn’t already intimidating enough, with every major decision maker and breaker in the industry running from show to show in the most coveted get-ups, street-style photographers snapping left and right so your outfit has to be on point, and editors and celebrity guests alike lining front rows, for Claire McKinney, this is also her first gig since graduating college in May this year. While most of us were still enjoying ‘Netflix and chill’ on Mom and Dad’s couch that soon out of college, McKinney is taking on fashion week.
Venues such as Made have been giving new and up-coming designers the space to show their new collections as of recent seasons, however, the young designer, who received her BFA in Fashion Design at Pratt Institute in New York just this past spring, will be showing, by appointment, at Ralph Pucci’s showroom. This just shows that the network you create, even as a student, truly does pay off . While in school she received the Liz Claiborne Concept to Product Award and began assisting Jade Lai, head designer of Creatures of Comfort. Despite all the NYFW frenzy and probably having her attention stretched in all directions, McKinney says, “I am excited about collaborating with some of my former classmates for my next collection,” so if her classmates have an eye anything like hers, we’re waiting for the class reunion.
See the Claire McKinney’s first collection inspired by “a reinterpretation of the workwear uniform” September 11-16, if you’re lucky.
