Chidera Reminds Us Why It’s Cool To Dress Like A 60s Rock Groupie In 2015
Love the look of wanderlusting ladies united by a love of music and rockstars, who often dress like they were wearing everything they owned at the same time? Think Marianne Faithfull, the rock groupie, Edie Sedgwick, the art groupie, and Kate Hudson as Penny Lane in the 90s-does-70s cult favorite movie, Almost Famous. Their modern counterpart is Slumflower blogger Chidera. With big bouncy curls and even bigger sunglasses, we can’t help but think she would be just as at home grooving in a field somewhere as she is on a photoshoot. See which classic style stars she cites as her icons below.
Which classic groupies inspire your style?
I’m somewhere between Foxy Brown and Scary Spice. I’ll always love me some big hair and big attitude!
What are some ways to bring the look into modern times?
MASSIVE circular shades, hair spray, bouncy curls and platform boots. Simple nomadic jewelry, which includes healing crystals, turquoise stones, and wooden beads. Nomadic jewelry is awesome because it’s worn by travelers. We are all travelers of the earth. Don’t be afraid to wear bootcut pants with something crazy, like a sassy tassel jacket. Bootcut pants are making a very cute comeback so don’t be afraid to give the trend a go!
You’re always rocking those Lennon glasses! Any other sunnies you are obsessed with?
Those Lennon glasses give me a rose-tinted view of the world, I adore them. I’m heavily into super glamorous, oversized reflective cat eye sunglasses. Cheap sunnies are always convenient because you won’t die of heartbreak if you accidentally snap your pricey sunglasses.
