Meet Ah Moon, Burma’s Hottest New Triple Threat
Ah Moon, the hot and sexy singer born and raised in Burma is preparing for some big changes. Although modeling was her big break after winning a Best Talent in the Miss Christmas Yangonese modeling competition, she pursued a singing career, and formed Me N Ma Girls, the first all-girl pop band to come out of Myanmar. Now, she told us, “I’ll be starring in a movie next year, and I couldn’t be more excited.” See our exclusive shots of Ah and get to know this singer before her career takes off.
What inspired you to get into music?
Music itself inspired me! I’m the happiest when I’m listening to, singing, or creating songs. I can’t live without music. Everyone needs it! But I also grew up singing and playing music in my local church where my dad is a pastor. Music has been a part of my life since I can remember.
What was growing up in Burma like?
So amazing! We didn’t have super modernized lives, as the country was closed for long time, but I really had an awesome childhood. I grew up in the church compound, playing with my siblings and friends from Sunday school…we were always climbing trees, or running around…I miss those days! I played violin, and piano, and was a part of choir. As I got older, I learned more about the politics and some of of the not-so-great things in my country, but in the end, I think these aspects of my heritage have inspired me to be a strong woman, stand on my own, and stand up for what I believe in.
What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
I talk to myself in the mirror, like every day [laughs]. I know that sounds insane, but it helps me to stay sane!
What does your album sound like?
It’s definitely dance-pop, with a couple of ballads. I sing in both English and Burmese, and the lyrics are pretty fun and sexy. My fans will see a more of grown up Ah Moon on this album. I can’t wait to share it with them!
What’s your favorite color?
Black. I wear it all the time.
What taste of home can’t you live without?
Oh my God, I need spicy food—the hotter the better. My manager is always trying to take me to the spiciest places in Los Angeles, but so far, he can’t even get my eyes to water [laughs]. I can tolerate a lot of heat!
Who do you idolize?
I’ve idolized Michael Jackson all my life. I miss him!
What kinds of exciting things are coming up for you this year?
More new music, videos, a tour around Southeast Asia—fingers crossed for America next! I’m so excited to work on my acting career as well!
