Beyoncé and Jay Z Might Release a Joint Album This Year
We already knew Beyoncé was probably going to grace us with a new solo album this year thanks to her surprise release of “Formation.”
But rumor has it that she and Jay Z might finally release a joint album that’s been in the works for a while this year, too.
A website called Hits Daily Double reported the rumor:
“Beyoncé is close to making a new worldwide, multi-album deal with Sony Music, and the final release under the current deal is now set for April. But there are rumors of another Beyoncé album in 2016, this one a joint project with husband Jay Z.”
These “rumors” might just be wishful thinking on the part of Hits Daily Double. But the two reportedly started work on a joint album before, and it’s been on the back burner since last summer.
Here’s why we actually believe this rumor: Beyoncé’s next solo project will still be subject to her Sony contract, meaning she probably won’t be able to stream it exclusively on Tidal unless Sony’s into that idea. But if she and Jay did a joint album after that, they could release it on Tidal.
And the next 10 months or so would be the opportune time for them to do that. Tidal membership is surging after back-to-back Rihanna and Kanye releases, and Jay will want to keep up that momentum — especially after all the naysaying that’s been done about the project.
The music probably won’t come out for months, but we’d bet that this project is a go. To celebrate, let’s enjoy a Jay x Bey classic.
