This Is the Go-To Nail Shape of 2016 According to a Pro
When it comes to nail trends, last year was all about pointy talons, as seen on Rihanna and Kylie Jenner.
While we still see those being in for at least a few more months, they can’t last forever. So we asked nail pro Alicia Torello (who’s worked with Kylie, Jennifer Lawrence, and Anne Hathaway) what the next big nail shape would be. She told that in 2016, it’s all about the squoval.
Squoval stands for “square oval” and might remind you of prom nails from around 2006. Here are a few examples:

Squoval can also be adapted to fit with the pointy trend if you’re not over it yet:

And as Alicia’s Instagram shows, a squarish shape can be adapted to short nails too.
To achieve the shape, you’ll have to start by growing your nails a little bit longer than you want them to end up. Then, round off the sides of your nails with a nail file. Finally, file down the top to put the “square” into “square-oval.”
And if you’re really feeling wild, double down on the square trend with the pink squares nail tutorial we did with Alicia. It’s easier than it looks!
