Bethany Cosentino Talks Best Coast’s Newest Summertime Album
When we think girl crush, Bethany Cosentino is at the top of our list. As the bombshell behind Best Coast, Bethany is taking over the summer with their brand new record, California Nights. The album, which dropped yesterday, shows a new “sense of self” for our goddess of summer and we’re loving every second of it. Bethany soaked up the rays outside of her California home for our exclusive photos and gave us the essentials to a Best Coast summer.

If you DJ’d a summer pool party, what would definitely make your playlist?
I have this really epic, long Spotify playlist called “The Best of Babyface” and it’s just full of amazing songs Babyface produced or wrote or songs of his own. There are some serious jams on there. TLC, Toni Braxton, Madonna, Paula Abdul – so many greats. He is one of my favorite producers/songwriters of all time. Did you know he wrote the soundtrack to the Josie And The Pussycat’s movie!? So amazing.
Pinot grigio, la croix, trashy reality TV, rosewater mist, my front porch and denim cut off shorts.
It’s so cool to see bands like Bully (who we just interviewed) opening your shows. We’re super excited about their album too. What are some summer releases you’re ready to get your hands on?
Yes, we love Bully and can’t wait to tour with them and for their record. My friend Tamaryn has an album coming out in August, called Cranekiss and it’s incredible. She’s doing something totally unique and different than all the other artists out there and she worked super hard on this record so I’m stoked for her.
Where are you buying all your summer clothes and what’s one item you can’t wait to debut?
I buy most of my clothes online, I am too impatient to shop in stores! I get a lot of stuff off of Etsy – vintage t shirts, shoes. I love that you can literally find anything on Etsy. I also love Zara. I got this really amazing vintage leather Nike baseball hat off of Etsy that I’m for sure going to be wearing a ton this summer on tour.
What summer treats/munchies are truly “Heaven Sent”?
Margaritas, chips and guacamole and lime popsicles.
We’re so stoked for your record and LOVE that’s it’s an album you’re truly content with. Tell us more about your baby and why this record is going to f***ing rule the summer.
I worked really hard on this record. I put so much of myself into it, and I feel like it really shows a level of growth not only from me, but from the band as a whole. It took me several years to feel as comfortable and confident as I do today, and this record really shows that new sense of self. I just want people to relate to the shit I have to say and I think this is my most relatable record yet.
What’s the best kind of summer lovin’?
Find a person who will smoke weed and watch Grease with you on the couch and sing along to all the songs with you.
