Bella Hadid Just Confirmed She’s Muslim
In what might be the most important public statement she’s has ever made, Bella Hadid has come out as a proud Muslim woman.
“My dad was a refugee when he first came to America, so [President Donald Trump’s travel ban] is actually very close to home for my sister and brother and me,” Bella told Porter magazine. “He was always religious, and he always prayed with us. I am proud to be a Muslim.”

While we’ve always known the Hadids had Middle-Eastern blood coursing through their veins, their father Mohamed Hadid is half Palestinian, but until now neither Bella nor Gigi has ever commented on whether or not they’re practicing Muslims.
In an age when anti-Muslim sentiment is being openly encouraged by the government, it means a lot for celebrities to come out as Muslim.
More than showing up to protest Trump’s Muslim Ban and more than Gigi Hadid’s Vogue Arabia cover, Bella coming out as a Muslim is a powerful reminder that there’s as many types of Muslims as there are Christians, Jews, or atheists.
Some Muslims may wear hijabs and some may pose in bikinis on the beach, but there’s more to Islam than the right-wind media can suggest.
Way to go, Bella.
