Turns Out Antonio Banderas Would Rather Design Your Clothing Than Rip It Off
Antonio Banderas, age 55, is going through a mid-life crisis right now. His marriage is over, his daughter has graduated from college, and the last big movie he made was The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water. So what’s an aging heartthrob to do? Enroll in fashion school.
See, while for years you, or at least your mom, dreamed of getting your clothes ripped off by Antonio Banderas, legendary hunk of Zoro fame, now you’re going to have to learn to settle with getting your clothes designed by Antonio Banderas.
Appearing on a British “chat show” hilariously called Loose Women, Antonio opened up about his passion for fashion, saying “it’s something that has been on my mind for a long time.”
Banderas is currently enrolled in Central Saint Martins, which was recently named the best undergraduate fashion school in the world and has produced fashion juggernauts such as Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, Stella McCartney and John Galliano. While Banderas’s fame most certainly played a part in his acceptance, he’s going to have his work cut out for him if he wants to graduate.
To receive a BA in Fashion, students at St. Martins spend three to four years studying in one of four disciples (Womenswear, menswear, knitwear or marketing). Over the course of those years, each student will attend 90 weeks of school, which is divided into three levels. Even though Antonio is only in his 2nd week of studies, he’s already described his studies as “intense, exciting, serious and fun all at the same time.”
Confirming our mid-life crisis theory, when asked why he chose now to embark on an entirely new career Banderas replied, “it makes me feel actually very young to put the elbows on the table again and try to understand another reality.”
While we’ll have to wait at least three years to see what a Banderas original looks like, thanks to Instagram we have our first look at Antonio Banderas, couture designer:
He always did have a way with the ladies.
