Amy Schumer Supports Stronger Gun Control After ‘Trainwreck’ Shooting
It’s devastating to think of all the merciless shootings that have tainted places meant for education, family entertainment and innocent enjoyment. Amy Schumer found a recent tragedy to hit very close to home, as a Luisiana gunman open-fired at a crowd during a screening of her new blockbuster comedy, Trainwreck, killing two women and injuring nine others. The actress and comedian, known for her charming outspoken nature, and fearless opinions, refuses to hold back on an issue that is simply outrageous in it’s frequent occurrences and, quite frankly, preventable.
Amy and cousin, Chuck Schumer, who is also a New York Senator, held a joint press conference in which they called for stronger background checks and and better mental health funding for those who wish to purchase a handgun. This would reward states that submit all required information for the purchaser to the federal government and penalizing states that don’t comply. The two activists are also calling for better funding for the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
Schumer began to grow teary eyed when speaking on the incident itself, and the lives of the women that were lost. On the verge of tears, Amy pronounces, “These shootings have got to stop. I don’t know how else to say it.”
There is absolutely no wavering line of accuracy in Schumer’s profound statement, not to mention a call to action to those who can make moves to prevent future tragic events such as this one. On a positive note, it is inspiring to see such a lighthearted and humbled individual, such as our beloved Schumer, step out in such a powerful manner.
