WTF Does It Mean To Co-Wash Your Hair? Mixed Girl Beauty Secrets From Alex Isabella
Different textures mean you gotta work it out differently, just like skin tones and eye shape. Why are there so many frickin products in this world? Well, what’s right for one is never right for all. Us Galore Girls are all about embracing our differences rather than trying to hide them, and that involves clueing in on some never-before-heard beauty wisdom. Lucky for us all, Alex Isabella reveals her all natural secrets.
How do you upkeep your hair?
I co-wash my hair every night, which means I wash it with only conditioner and not shampoo. Then I twist my hair to keep the curls on point.
What are your favorite haircare products for kinky/curly hair?
I’m a really big fan of Shea Moisture products, they’re really hydrating but don’t weigh down your hair.
What are some brands that allow you to add a pop of color to your makeup routine?
The only time I use “pop colors” are with my lipstick. MAC, Maybelline and Revlon have my favorites.
What’s your skincare regime like?
I wash my face every morning and night with Dark Angels cleanser by LUSH, which is made of black sugar and charcoal. I also use black African soap, which is a beauty secret from Siera Leone to help balance oily skin. I’m a huge believer that natural products work the best.
What are the best moisturizers for your skin?
Honestly, I just started using coconut oil to moisturize my skin (a little late to hop on the trend) and it works better than anything else I’ve tried.
What’s your secret quick fix for a pimple?
DON’T POP THEM. I learned that the hard way. Putting lemon juice or tea tree oil on the zit to dry it out and calm the redness works best.
