This Go-To Acne Fix Will Actually Make It Worse

When a pimple pops up, your first reaction is probably to apply all your skincare products in hope of killing it swiftly. Or maybe your first reaction is to squeeze it, which results in immediate regret.

But, if your first (or second or third) reaction involves toner, you need to take a step back.

In fact, when Glamour talked to Dr. Zeichner, director of Cosmetic and Clinical Research in Dermatology at Mt. Sinai, he explained that you should make sure you don’t put toner on your problem areas.

He explained that any astringents (like toner or rose water) can “disrupt the skin barrier and cause inflammation and irritation.”

He said you might be okay if you have super oily skin, but otherwise simply apply toner to every part of your face (as you usually do) and skip the pimple.

It’s kind of counterintuitive, but good to know nonetheless.

Now go get your glow on, girl.
