A Look At Which City’s Brows Are The Most ‘On Fleek’
Brows have undoubtedly been having a moment. Cara Delevingne has inspired brown envy world-wide and made us vow to put down the tweezers, scorning our junior high selves for plucking our arches into oblivion. The debate still exists though, as to what actually constitutes brows that are ‘on fleek’. Is it a brow with a defined arch? Bushy or nicely trimmed? A long or short tail? Luckily for us, Mimi tapped brow artists from all over the U.S. to finally settle the debate on what each part of the country thinks is the best brow. We’ve selected our top 5 faves below. Look for yourself and decide if maybe you brows need to relocate to a different area code.
1. NYC: THE POWER ARCH
According to Fekkai brow expert Manana Dzhanimanova, “Bigger is better! Thin brows are out. Today’s most requested and popular brow shape is thick and natural with a soft arch. It’s all about the untouched look.” This means leaving those babies alone and enhancing what you have. Tinting can make fair brows appear fuller, and some light shading with a pencil or powder can fill in sparse spots. The arch in NYC’s favorite helps from full brows looking too heavy on the face and opens up your eyes.
2. LOS ANGELES: THE CLASSIC BROW
The Los Angeles brow is the definition of easy and breezy, full and natural, with enough structure to flatter the face, but clean enough to keep from looking too wild. Fekkai makeup artist Elena Drokinahas, who is responsible for the eyebrows of Jessica Alba and Selena Gomez, says “To achieve this look, you must enhance the shape you already have naturally without trying to change it. Waxing should be minimal and left to outside corners. Define the arch with tweezers making sure not to over-tweeze. Finish with brow gel to keep the hair in place and eyebrow pencil and powder to fill in any sparse areas.” We love this brow look as easily can go from the beach to wherever the night takes you with minimal maintenance.
3. MIAMI: THE DIVA BROW
The Miami brow is definitely not for the faint of heart, the sharp shape and sassy arch command attention and the spunk to back it up. We would definitely pair this brow look with a killer cat eye, and concealer around the edges, to keep the shape of the brow defined.
4. CHICAGO: THICK AND FULL
The Chicago is almost a hybrid between the Miami and the Los Angeles, you get the fullness but also the lift from a nice arch. Taking into account your eye size and shape, the arch of your brow should line up with the outer corner of your iris. Fekkai brow specialist Elle Glass gushes about this shape, “I am a fan of a slightly arched brow. It’s clean, polished, looks great with a little highlighter, and who doesn’t want a little eye lift?” She also stresses that eyebrows are sisters, not twins, don’t stress if they aren’t exactly identical.
5. DENVER: THE BOYISH BROW
The Denver brow is for those who are naturally #blessed with fullness and a great shape. All you need is a spoolie to brush them into place and you’re done. If you were lucky enough to be born with this beautiful face framers, embrace them! The androgynous shape looks and actually is effortless.
